The Fellowship of Christian Athletes engages coaches and athletes to grow in their faith and sport.
Pastor Rolland Slade has been blessed to be married to the former Adrienne Jewell since 1981. They have three children Rolland (Jay), Ryan, and Alexandra. Rolland has been involved in athletics most of his life, from Little League baseball and Pop Warner Football in youth to football and track & field at Helix High School. Then track & field at Grossmont Junior College. Coaching at the local youth sports, travel club and high school levels. Since 2002, Rolland, served as an Administrator for California Little League District 66 in San Diego overseeing 10 Little Leagues and over 1,200 players. Sports has been an avenue for him to share the love of Jesus with those whom GOD has brought in his path. Fellowship of Christian Athletes East County has been a huge encouragement to Rolland and he is thankful to serve on the Board of Directors. This opportunity gives him a chance to not only share Jesus, but to invest in the kingdom work of sharing the Gospel through equipping coaches and athletes for life.
Mark Salazar is blessed with an amazing wife, Kristi (14 years) and 2 great kids! He loves Jesus, his family, and sports. Discipleship and sharing the Word of God are his passions, and he lives to help people experience a transformed life found in Christ. In high school he was one of the top 100 baseball players in the nation and turned down the Houston Astros in the 1997 MLB draft to take a full scholarship to Long Beach State. God had other plans, however. he was injured in a major car accident, lost his scholarship, and transferred to Shasta College in Redding, CA, to rehabilitate. There he became a follower of Christ. Although he earned another scholarship to play at The University of San Diego, God called him into full time ministry. Mark gave back his scholarship to work as a janitor and coach high school baseball at Horizon Christian in San Diego. Over the last 18 years, he has been serving the Lord through sports and pastoring. He is excited to jump into full time sports ministry with FCA as a mission
Greetings, I am Sam Calhoun, born and raised in the Midwest. As a Navy Chaplain in the reserves I came to San Diego for training in January 1972. I came back the following summer as result of call from a church in Carlsbad, California. I have pastored in the area off and on for past 40 plus years. In between times I have raised funds through planned giving instruments for Lynchburg University, BIOLA University and The Salvation Army. The past 15 years I have been pastoring Windsor Hills Community Church. This is where I was really impressed with the work FCA is doing. Our church sponsored an FCA club at Helix High School through the encouragement of, then county director, Jay Schrader. Recently my church has renewed its relationship with FCA and Helix High. I have 3 grown sons, 5 granddaughters and, 3 great grandchildren. I am Married to Joyce, a former flight attendant, my partner in ministry and life. Charles was raised in east county San Diego. In fact, he personally attended 4 of the 9 campuses that his role oversees. Growing up in his household, Christianity was merely a cultural thing that had little significance. Charles grew up as a cultural Christian and it was not until his time at Christian High School that God saved him. God used teachers and coaches in His story and this is part of the reason why Charles is on staff with FCA. After high school, Charles was awarded a nearly free education at Bucknell to play football. There he got his degree in Business Management. Soon after graduation, Charles met his wife Arlene who was one of the first people to introduce FCA to Charles. Charles realized immediately that FCA embodies his two loves: Christ and sport. Unbeknownst to Arlene, a simple forwarded email of a job opportunity with FCA in San Diego turned into God using Charles in ways he never expected. Soon after Charles said yes to the call of God to be on staff with FCA, Arlene said yes to be Charles’ bride August 21, 2015. Together they see the call of God for full time ministry. They currently live in San Diego with their one-year-old son Levi.
Jarrett Lettow was born and bred in East County, San Diego. He runs a company in East County called Universal Waste Disposal where they recycle lights, batteries, and electronics. He has been involved with FCA at times over the past 10 years, and when Mark asked him to join the board he was a bit reluctant. He was recently married to his best friend Erica, and didn’t think he had any extra time to devote even to causes that he believes in strongly. Well Mark, invited him to the Camp that FCA puts on at UCLA each summer, and he was blown away by the impact that FCA is having spreading the Gospel to young people in a way that speaks to all of us, through sports! He is honored to serve alongside Mark and the rest of the board, as they strive to serve Christ through their words and actions each day
Joemel Delossantos is the Spring Valley Area Representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a Youth Pastor in the Spring Valley area and has a heavy burden for reaching young people and pointing them towards the Lord through the influence of coaches and athletes. Joemel was raised in a Christian home in the San Diego area. In High School he was given an academic scholarship to San Diego State University where he had dreams of being involved with Sports Journalism. Although, never very athletic he always admired the influence that athletes had in their community and wanted to somehow be part of that. Instead of attending SDSU straight after High School, Joemel decided to spend one year at a Christian College to learn more about the Bible. It was at West Coast Baptist College in Lancaster CA, where the Lord called him into full-time ministry. Joemel choose to stay and finish his major in Pastoral Theology and graduated from West Coast Baptist College in 2012. After graduation he became the Youth Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Spring Valley, overseeing various ministries, with an emphasis on youth and children. The Lord impressed upon his heart to join the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as staff which brings tons of opportunity to present the gospel message to my community. Thrilled to see what the Lord can do through your support of the FCA. In the fall of 2018 Joemel will be married to Annalyn Tagadtad.
